Telangana Braces for Thunderstorms After Record-Breaking Heatwave
Following a blistering Thursday that saw the season's highest temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius, Telangana is poised for a significant weather shift. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms across the state, offering much-needed respite from the intense heatwave conditions that have gripped the region.
Storm Activity Timeline and Expected Impact
Beginning on April 19, storm activity is predicted to initiate in districts adjoining Hyderabad. This activity will then gradually expand, covering most parts of Telangana between April 21 and 25. Hyderabad itself is anticipated to experience thunderstorms during this period, providing temporary relief from the oppressive heat.
According to IMD officials, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at isolated places throughout Telangana. The department has issued warnings for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in multiple districts, including:
- Adilabad
- Kumuram Bheem Asifabad
- Mancherial
- Nirmal
- Nizamabad
- Jagtial
- Rajanna Sircilla
- Karimnagar
- Peddapalli
- Jayashankar Bhupalpally
- Mulugu
- Bhadradri Kothagudem
- Vikarabad
- Sangareddy

Persistent High Temperatures Before Relief
Despite the impending rainfall, daytime temperatures remained alarmingly high on Thursday. Jagtial recorded the peak maximum temperature at 44.4 degrees Celsius. Close behind were Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, Mancherial, Nalgonda, Nirmal, and Nizamabad, each registering approximately 44.3 degrees Celsius.
Kamareddy, Karimnagar, and Siddipet followed with temperatures of 44.1 degrees Celsius. Numerous other districts reported readings above 42 degrees Celsius, underscoring the persistent and widespread heatwave conditions across Telangana.
The expected thunderstorms mark a crucial weather transition, potentially mitigating the severe heat stress experienced by residents and offering a brief break from the scorching conditions.
