Thousands of fish were found dead in the Ganga River in the Jajmau area of Kanpur on Saturday, prompting a large number of local residents to gather at the site and collect the dead fish using nets.
Concerns Over Chemical Pollution
Residents in the area have voiced concerns that the fish fatalities may be attributed to water contaminated with chemicals. Upon learning of the situation, police arrived to gather information from the locals.

On Saturday morning, people noticed dead fish along the riverbanks, with many floating on the water’s surface and a considerable number lying lifeless along the banks. Following this discovery, a crowd quickly assembled from the surrounding areas.
Demand for Investigation
Local residents have called for a thorough investigation, including water sample analysis, identification of those responsible, and stringent action against them. They have warned that if prompt action is not taken, a major protest will ensue.

District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh stated that an explanation will be sought from the Regional Pollution Officer concerning this matter. Appropriate measures will be taken against the officials.
