Thunder Showers Provide Temporary Respite from Humidity in Lucknow

Residents of Lucknow and several other parts of Uttar Pradesh experienced a welcome break from the oppressive humidity on Saturday evening as thunder showers swept across the region. The sudden change in weather brought relief, though meteorologists warn that sultry conditions are likely to return on Sunday.

Weather Systems Behind the Change

According to weather experts, the shift was triggered by specific atmospheric conditions. A western disturbance over Pakistan combined with a cyclonic circulation over Punjab to alter the weather pattern across the state. This interaction led to widespread thunder activity accompanied by lightning and light rainfall in multiple areas.

Detailed Conditions in Lucknow

In the state capital, the day began with typical humidity and a partly cloudy sky. However, as evening approached, dark clouds gathered, followed by intense thunder activity, frequent lightning, and steady showers. The city was also buffeted by strong winds, with speeds recorded between 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. The meteorological observatory at Amausi documented a total rainfall of 16 millimeters.

Temperature and Atmospheric Effects

The maximum temperature on Saturday reached 35.6 degrees Celsius, which is 0.8 degrees below the normal average for this time of year. Conversely, the minimum temperature was 22.2 degrees Celsius, marking a significant three degrees above normal. The night remained unusually warm due to the cloud cover, which trapped ground heat and prevented it from escaping into the atmosphere.

Forecast for the Coming Days

Mohammad Danish, a senior scientist at the state meteorological department, provided insights into the upcoming weather. "The weather is expected to stabilize with a partly cloudy sky on Sunday and Monday. However, another spell of thunder showers may occur on Wednesday, driven by a fresh western disturbance developing over Afghanistan," he stated.

In the interim, isolated rain or thundershowers are possible in various parts of the state on Sunday. Residents should prepare for a brief return to humid conditions before the potential mid-week rainfall offers another respite.
