A powerful and destructive Nor'wester tornado unleashed its fury on the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, causing widespread devastation and tragic loss of life. The severe weather event has resulted in at least two confirmed fatalities and left several individuals injured, with emergency services scrambling to respond to the crisis.
Extensive Damage to Homes and Infrastructure
The tornado inflicted catastrophic damage on residential structures across the affected areas. Reports indicate that nearly 70 mud and thatched houses were completely obliterated, blown away by the intense winds. In total, over 100 houses have been reported as affected, suffering varying degrees of destruction from partial damage to total collapse.
The impact extended beyond homes, severely disrupting critical infrastructure. Numerous trees and electrical poles were violently uprooted, leading to a complete disruption of power supply in the region. Panapsi and Dumuria villages also reported significant destruction, compounding the regional crisis.
