Uttar Pradesh Forest Department Announces Strategic Plan to Mitigate Man-Monkey Conflicts

The Uttar Pradesh forest department has formulated a comprehensive plan aimed at addressing the escalating issue of man-monkey conflicts across the state. This initiative includes both immediate and sustainable long-term measures to ensure harmony between human settlements and wildlife.

Minister Arun Kumar Saxena Outlines Key Measures

Arun Kumar Saxena, the Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Independent Charge), revealed the details of this plan on Thursday. He emphasized the urgency of implementing coordinated efforts to reduce these conflicts effectively.

To streamline the execution of this plan, coordination committees have been established under the leadership of District Magistrates (DMs). These committees are tasked with overseeing the implementation of various suggestions and solutions proposed to mitigate conflicts.

"Field officials have been instructed to conduct regular meetings of these committees to monitor outcomes and ensure effective implementation," stated Minister Saxena.

Immediate Relief and Compensation for Affected Families

As part of the short-term measures, officials will proactively reach out to families impacted by man-monkey conflicts. Compensation will be provided in accordance with government provisions to alleviate the hardships faced by these individuals.

Long-Term Strategies for Sustainable Coexistence

The minister outlined several long-term strategies designed to minimize human-wildlife conflicts:

  • Reducing Human Interference: Officials are directed to curb human activities in wildlife habitats to prevent disturbances.
  • Habitat Enhancement: Planting fruit-bearing trees in forest areas to provide natural food sources for monkeys.
  • Water Provision: Ensuring year-round water availability for wildlife, particularly during the summer months.

Modern Techniques for Sapling Production and Quality Improvement

In a related development, the forest department is leveraging advanced technologies to enhance plantation efforts. This includes the use of modern and hi-tech nurseries, along with techniques such as tissue culture and high-quality clones.

"These methods will significantly increase sapling production and improve their overall quality," explained the minister.

Engaging Farmers in Agroclimatic Zone-Specific Plantation

During a review of this year's plantation preparations, Minister Saxena instructed officials to collaborate with farmers. The focus is on providing saplings that are suitable for specific agroclimatic zones and align with farmers' preferences.

This holistic approach aims to foster a balanced ecosystem where both human communities and wildlife can thrive without conflict.
