West Bengal Braces for 2-4°C Temperature Drop Over Next 4 Days: IMD
West Bengal to see 2-4°C temperature drop, dry week ahead

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a significant weather update on Tuesday, predicting a noticeable dip in nighttime temperatures across West Bengal. Residents should prepare for cooler conditions as the mercury is set to fall substantially over the coming days.

IMD Forecasts Significant Temperature Dip

According to the IMD bulletin, minimum temperatures across the entire state of West Bengal are likely to decrease by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next four days. The forecast indicates a regional variation in this cooling trend. While districts in south Bengal can expect a more pronounced drop of 3 to 4 degrees, the northern parts of the state will see a slightly milder decline of 2 to 3 degrees.

Dry Spell and Morning Fog Expected

The weather office has also predicted predominantly dry conditions for all districts over the next week. However, mornings may bring reduced visibility due to fog. The bulletin warns that shallow to moderate fog is likely at one or two places in all districts, potentially lowering visibility to between 200 metres and less than one kilometre during the early hours.

Current Temperature Snapshot

On Tuesday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, which was notably over three notches above the normal for this time of year. In the plains, Alipurduar was the coldest recorded spot at 12 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Cooch Behar at 12.1 degrees Celsius.

The hill stations reported even chillier readings. Darjeeling was the coldest in the state at 7 degrees Celsius, while nearby Kalimpong registered a minimum temperature of 11.5 degrees Celsius.

This shift towards cooler and drier weather marks a distinct change in the regional climate pattern and advises residents, especially early morning commuters, to take necessary precautions for the fog and cooler mornings ahead.
