16 Injured in Chain Collision on Kanpur-Sagar Highway

In a devastating chain collision near Tilsada turn in Patara town of Ghatampur in Kanpur, 16 people sustained critical injuries, and a massive 20-kilometer traffic jam ensued on the Kanpur-Sagar Highway starting from 2 am on Wednesday.

Rescue Operation

With the assistance of local villagers, the police rescued the injured individuals and transported them to the Patara Community Health Centre (CHC). Medical staff administered first aid before referring all victims to the Kanpur District Hospital for advanced treatment.

Details of the Accident

The incident occurred when a van carrying wedding guests stalled while turning at Tilsada turn in Patara town. A dumper approaching from the Ghatampur direction collided with the van, triggering a chain reaction involving six vehicles. Patara Chowki police and a National Highway Authority of India (NHI) patrolling team, alerted by passersby, promptly arrived at the scene. They rescued the injured from the damaged vehicles and rushed them to Patara CHC.

Medical Response

Doctors at Patara CHC provided first aid and subsequently referred 13 of the 16 injured individuals, who were in critical condition. Some of the injured were taken to private hospitals by their attendants for further care.

Traffic Clearance

The police utilized NHI cranes and JCBs to clear the wrecked vehicles from the highway. The operation took approximately three hours, after which traffic movement was restored. A route diversion was implemented from Ramaeepur Chowraha towards Kanpur at Ghatampur Chowraha to manage the flow of vehicles.

Injured and Officer Injured

During the rescue operation to safely extract injured individuals trapped in the van, Patara Chowki in-charge Lalit Sharma sustained an injury to his hand. The injured referred to the hospital include Ashish Sharma, Rudra, Pranshu Shukla, Pradeep, Mohit, Rajesh, Rambahardur, Ajay Kumar, Naresh, Manoj Kumar, Jairam, and Khushiram. Additionally, Sarvesh Kumar, Hashim, and Salman, residents of Barabanki, were also among the injured.
