Ranchi: A total of 25 members of the squad led by Maoist politburo member Misir Besra are set to surrender before the state police on Thursday, the Jharkhand police announced on Wednesday. The surrender will take place under the government's 'Operation Navjeevan', a rehabilitation initiative aimed at encouraging Maoists to return to the mainstream.
Background of the Surrender
This development comes as a result of continuous operations conducted by the Jharkhand police against left-wing extremism. In recent months, members of the Misir Besra gang have also surrendered in neighboring states such as Telangana and West Bengal. The trend indicates a growing impact of the security forces' strategy to dismantle Maoist networks through sustained pressure and rehabilitation offers.
Operation Navjeevan Details
Operation Navjeevan is a state government program that provides a path for Maoists to lay down their arms and reintegrate into society. It includes financial assistance, skill training, and other benefits for surrendering cadres. The initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce the influence of Naxalite groups in the region, which have been active for decades.
The Jharkhand police have urged other Maoist members to follow suit and take advantage of the rehabilitation scheme. The surrender of 25 individuals is seen as a significant blow to the Misir Besra-led faction, which has been involved in several violent incidents in the past.
