In a major operation, the Karnataka police rescued 50 children from Bihar who were allegedly being trafficked for labor in Bangarpet, Kolar district. The children, aged between 8 and 16, were found working in harsh conditions at a brick kiln and other establishments.
Operation Details
The rescue was carried out late Tuesday night based on a tip-off. A team from the Bangarpet police station, along with child welfare officials, raided multiple locations. The children were reportedly lured from their villages in Bihar with promises of education and jobs, but were instead forced to work long hours without pay.
Victim Accounts
Preliminary investigations revealed that the children were brought to Bangarpet over the past few months. They were made to work in brick kilns, stone quarries, and as domestic help. Many showed signs of physical abuse and malnutrition. The rescued children are now under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and are being provided medical aid and counseling.
Legal Action
Police have registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act. Two suspects, including the owner of the brick kiln, have been arrested. A search is on for other accused involved in the trafficking network. Authorities are also coordinating with Bihar police to trace the families of the children.
This rescue highlights the ongoing issue of child trafficking in India, where vulnerable children from impoverished regions are often lured with false promises. The Karnataka police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to child labor.
