Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has stirred a major political controversy by alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party is behind recent blast-like incidents in Amritsar and Jalandhar. Speaking to the media, Mann claimed these incidents were an attempt to create fear ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections. He stated that the incidents are under investigation and accused the BJP of trying to gain political advantage through unrest.
Political Reactions Intensify
The remarks sparked strong reactions from political leaders across the spectrum. Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha questioned the Chief Minister's statement and pointed to the possible involvement of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri criticized Mann for his claims, emphasizing that security agencies have indicated external terror links. Puri said, "The Chief Minister's remarks are irresponsible and directly promote the ISI narrative."
Escalating Row
The row has escalated into a major political controversy in Punjab, with the BJP accusing Mann of undermining national security. The state government has assured a thorough investigation into the incidents, but the political blame game continues. This development comes amid heightened security concerns in the region, with authorities on alert for any potential threats.
