Bus Explosion Kills 2, Injures 8; Lightning Strike Suspected

A devastating bus explosion on the Bhiwani-Hansi road late Monday night claimed at least two lives and left eight others injured, with authorities probing whether a lightning strike triggered the blast. The private bus burst into flames near Milkpur village, as reported by witnesses. Forensic teams have collected samples to determine the cause of the explosion, while locals reported seeing a lightning strike just before the vehicle was engulfed in fire.

Eyewitness Accounts

"The blast shook the entire area," said Vijay, a shopkeeper located about 150 meters away. "Flames erupted from the middle of the bus, and passengers ran out screaming." The intensity of the fire caused panic among nearby residents, who rushed to assist the injured.

Victims and Identification

Recovery teams discovered two bodies inside the wreckage after extinguishing the fire. Police suspect the victims are Sunil, an intelligence department employee from Hansi, and Baljeet, a 45-year-old private sector worker from Bhiwani. However, the remains were charred beyond recognition, necessitating DNA tests to confirm their identities. Sunil's family noted his mobile phone went dead minutes before the blast, while Baljeet's family reported him missing after he failed to arrive for his work shift in Hisar.

Investigation Underway

Tosham Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dilip Kumar confirmed that investigators are weighing eyewitness accounts of a lightning strike against technical evidence. "A scientific examination and the subsequent forensic report will lead us to answers," he said. The eight injured passengers were moved to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police and forensic experts remain at the site, and recovery efforts have halted traffic on the regional corridor.

Forensic Analysis

Pending DNA reports, investigators are focusing on the vehicle's mechanical state and the weather conditions at the time of the explosion. Preliminary forensic findings are expected within this week. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and the potential impact of severe weather on vehicles.
