A tragic incident occurred at Pulia Ghat near Ahirauli village under the Town police station in Buxar district on Friday, when three children who had gone to bathe in the Ganga drowned. While local residents managed to rescue two of the children, one of them later succumbed to injuries during treatment, and another remains missing.
Incident Details
According to police reports, the incident took place when Manoj Singh, a resident of Ahirauli village, had gone to the ghat to perform Shraddh rituals for his deceased father. During the ceremony, his seven-year-old son, Mukul Singh, along with 13-year-old Sanjeev Singh, son of his brother-in-law Chhotu Singh, and another relative entered the river to bathe. The children ventured into deep water and began drowning.
Rescue Efforts
Upon witnessing the situation, locals immediately jumped into the river and managed to rescue Sanjeev Singh and the other child. However, Sanjeev later died during treatment at a nearby hospital. Search operations for Mukul Singh were ongoing until the time of filing this report.
Anger Among Residents
The incident sparked anger among local residents, who alleged delay and negligence in launching rescue operations. They claimed that timely action by the administration could have prevented the tragedy. Several villagers gathered at the ghat, demanding a thorough investigation and accountability.
Police Response
Town SHO Manoj Kumar stated, “Police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. Search efforts are underway to trace the missing child, and further investigation is being carried out.” He assured that all possible measures are being taken to locate the missing boy and that the situation is under control.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing search operations. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of bathing in rivers without proper precautions, especially during monsoon season when water levels can rise unpredictably.
