Cloudburst Triggers Flashflood in Kinnaur, No Casualties

A cloudburst in the Kachrang stream triggered a flashflood in Kachrang village, located in the Nathpa area of Kinnaur district, during the early hours of Wednesday. The sudden surge of water caused significant damage to local infrastructure, including a link road and a footbridge, as well as drinking water supply schemes and apple orchards. Despite the destruction, no loss of life or major property loss has been reported, according to officials.

Infrastructure Damage and Response

The flashflood completely washed away a footbridge over the Kachrang stream and damaged the link road connecting the village, disrupting local connectivity. Several drinking water supply schemes were also affected. Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Dr Amit Kumar Sharma confirmed that teams from the district administration and various departments reached the affected area soon after the incident to assess the situation and initiate restoration work. He stated, "Despite the damage to public infrastructure and orchards, no major property loss or casualties had been reported." The officials concerned have been directed to undertake immediate repair and restoration measures, which are currently underway.
