Varanasi: A couple was killed, while their two children, aged 10 and 12, miraculously survived after a speeding trailer rammed into their motorcycle near Mahuli crossing on the Shaktinagar Highway in Mirzapur on Sunday. According to police, the children were thrown several metres away by the impact but escaped without major injuries, while the couple came under the wheels of the trailer and died on the spot.
Incident Details
According to Mirzapur CO (Operations) Shikha Bharti, the family had gone to attend a wedding ceremony in Lalpur Adhwar on Saturday evening and were returning home when the tragic accident occurred. Local residents, upon seeing the two children attempting to pull out their parents' bodies, immediately rushed forward to assist them.
Police Investigation
Police said the trailer driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. The vehicle has been seized, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding driver, Bharti added. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash and have urged witnesses to come forward with information.
