Local officials reported that two individuals lost their lives in strikes on Russian territory, while Ukraine also faced casualties from overnight assaults.
Deadly Strikes Hit Russian Border Regions
On Sunday, regional governors in Russia confirmed fatalities from Ukrainian drone operations. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the Governor of Belgorod region, stated that one person died when a drone hit a car. The attack also wounded two others, one of whom was a young child.
In a separate incident within the Kursk region, Governor Alexander Khinshtein reported another fatality from a drone strike on a village. These attacks underscore the escalating nature of the conflict, now nearing its fourth year.
Ukraine Reports Casualties Amid Diplomatic Push
Ukraine's State Emergency Service confirmed that three people were injured in the Kharkiv region due to drone strikes overnight into Sunday. Furthermore, the aftermath of a prior Russian missile attack on the city of Kharkiv grew more grim.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov announced on Sunday that the death toll from Friday's missile strike had risen to five after body parts were discovered under the rubble of a damaged building.
Path to Peace: High-Stakes Meetings in Paris
These violent exchanges occurred against the backdrop of significant diplomatic activity. On Saturday, national security advisers from Europe and other allied nations visited Kyiv to discuss critical issues of security guarantees and economic support for Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, preparing for his trip to Paris, indicated that peace efforts could gain momentum. He revealed that Ukraine has shared all relevant discussion documents with the 18 national security advisers involved.
Representatives from Ukraine's General Staff and military sector are scheduled to meet on Monday in Paris. This will be followed by a meeting of European leaders on Tuesday, where Zelenskyy expressed hope that documents outlining security guarantees could be finalized. Meetings with U.S. representatives in Paris are also planned.
