Elephant Injured in IED Blast Gets Veterinary Care

The forest department has deployed three veterinarians to attend to an elephant that sustained a leg injury in an IED blast in the Koyan forest range in Saranda, West Singhbhum district, on Sunday. The 13-year-old male elephant is believed to have a fractured front right leg. Forest officials reported on Tuesday that the elephant is currently lying in a large drain and is in a frail condition.

On-Site Treatment and Monitoring

Passive medication is being administered to the injured elephant at the site. Once its condition stabilises, authorities will consider tranquillising it for transport to a rescue centre. Saranda Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Aviroop Sinha stated, “Three veterinarians are stationed at the site to monitor its health continuously.”

Next Steps for the Injured Elephant

The forest department is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the elephant’s recovery. The veterinarians are providing round-the-clock care and will decide on the next course of action based on the animal’s response to treatment. The incident highlights the ongoing risks posed by explosive remnants in forested areas.
