Kanpur: Four people died after their car slammed into the rear of a stationary truck on the Ganga Expressway in Unnao on Friday afternoon. The accident occurred on the Prayagraj-bound side near Asivan police station limits. Two occupants died instantly, while the other two succumbed to injuries during treatment at the hospital.
CM Yogi Adityanath Expresses Condolences
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the grieving families and directed officials to reach the spot immediately to expedite relief work. He instructed officers to communicate with the victims' families and provide all possible assistance.
Eyewitness Accounts and Rescue Operation
According to eyewitnesses, the car was traveling at around 100 km/hr at the time of impact. The force of the crash tore the vehicle apart, leaving its front portion completely mangled. Passengers were trapped in their seats and had to be rescued after cutting open the doors. A large crowd gathered on the expressway, and bystanders alerted the police. Officers used a crane to remove the wrecked car from the road.
The truck had been left parked along the roadside due to a mechanical problem. The Tata Punch approaching from behind at high speed crashed violently into it. Police believe the driver may have lost control before the collision.
Victims Identified
Police identified the deceased as Uday Singh (26), a resident of Jafarpur in Phoolpur; Anupam Gupta (32); and Vijay (25) and Aman (28), both from Babuganj in Prayagraj. The accident occurred around 3:20 pm on Friday.
Station House Officer Pradeep Singh reached the site with a police team and began an on-site investigation. He confirmed that the victims' families have been informed and that the case is being examined from all possible angles.
Possible Alcohol Involvement
An official privy to the investigation stated that a beer bottle was found inside the car, raising suspicion that alcohol may have played a role in the crash. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the postmortem report is received.
