A tragic road accident in Gujarat's Surendranagar district claimed four lives and left 10 others injured when a private luxury bus burst into flames following a collision with an asphalt-laden tanker in the early hours of Thursday, officials reported.

Details of the Incident

The accident occurred around 1:30 am near Sangani village on the Chotila-Rajkot National Highway, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police SS Bhadoriya, as quoted by news agency PTI. The bus, traveling from Ahmedabad to Rajkot, rammed into the tanker moving ahead of it. Shortly after the collision near Chotila, the bus ignited, officials stated.

Approximately 40 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the crash. Many were rescued from the burning vehicle, Bhadoriya added. Deputy Collector HT Makwana confirmed that four passengers were burnt alive in the collision between the private bus and the tanker filled with asphalt.

Injuries and Response

According to police, 10 individuals sustained injuries in the incident. The injured were transported to Rajkot Civil Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent to Chotila Referral Hospital for postmortem examination, Makwana said. Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving information about the blaze and managed to bring it under control.

The tragic incident highlights the dangers of nighttime travel on highways and the importance of road safety measures. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
