Lucknow: Four persons were killed and two others injured after a speeding car rammed into a combine harvester in Bahraich on Sunday night. The accident occurred near a petrol pump on Bahraich-Nanpara road in Matera, about 30km from the district headquarters.
Details of the Incident
Police said six friends from Bahraich were travelling in a Tata Punch from Nanpara towards Bahraich. The car overturned after the collision and its roof got ripped off. The car driver suffered injuries in the jaw. The combine harvester driver fled after the accident.
Rescue and Identification
Locals and police teams led by Bahraich SP Vishwajeet Srivastava rescued the injured. Four occupants died on the spot. They were identified as Ashwani Srivastava, Altaf Ahmad, Anil Kumar, and Mahendra. The injured, Vikas Srivastava and Shivam Srivastava, were initially taken to Nanpara Community Health Centre before being referred to the district hospital due to their critical condition.
Police shifted the bodies to the mortuary. SP Vishwajeet Srivastava said further investigation was underway and legal action would be taken accordingly. SHO Harikesh Singh said efforts were on to trace the absconding combine driver.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of speeding on rural roads. The police are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash and urge anyone with information to come forward.
