A gangster allegedly killed his associate in the Goindwal Sahib area of Punjab on Tuesday night. The incident took place in a secluded spot near the riverbank, where the victim was shot multiple times at close range. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Gurpreet Singh, a known criminal with multiple cases registered against him in various police stations across the state.
Details of the Incident
According to police sources, the accused, identified as Jagjit Singh, alias Jaggi, had called Gurpreet for a meeting under the pretext of discussing a pending dispute. However, during the meeting, an argument broke out between the two, leading to Jaggi pulling out a pistol and firing several rounds at Gurpreet. The victim died on the spot. Jaggi then fled the scene on a motorcycle. Local residents who heard the gunshots alerted the police, who arrived shortly after and recovered the body.
Police Investigation
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, stated that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. The police have formed multiple teams to nab the accused. Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder was a result of a personal vendetta, as both individuals were involved in criminal activities and had a history of rivalry.
Police have also recovered the motorcycle used by the accused, which was found abandoned in a nearby village. Forensic experts are examining the vehicle for any clues. The SSP appealed to the public to provide any information regarding the whereabouts of Jagjit Singh, assuring that the informant's identity would be kept confidential.
