A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by her maternal uncle in the Myorpur police station area of Sonbhadra district. The police arrested the accused in a late-night encounter on Monday after swift action.
Accused confesses to crime
Pipri CO Harsh Pandey said the accused confessed to sexually assaulting the girl and killing her. The girl was living at her maternal home and had been missing since Sunday evening. Her body was found 100 metres from her house in Myorpur under suspicious circumstances on Monday morning. Her clothes were dishevelled, and injury marks were found on her neck and other parts of her body.
Police investigation and encounter
The police sent the body for a post-mortem and filed an FIR under Section 103(1) of BNS for murder. SP Abhishek Verma formed a joint team of SOG, surveillance and local police, given the sensitivity of the case. The team identified the accused within two hours using technical and manual evidence. During the encounter, the accused was shot in the leg in retaliatory firing by police.
