A tragic incident occurred at Garhi Harsaru railway station in Gurgaon on Thursday morning, where a 48-year-old woman and her elderly mother lost their lives after being hit by a train while crossing the railway tracks. The victims have been identified as Mamta Devi, a resident of Basharia village in Farukhnagar, and her mother, Madhubala (82), a resident of Charkhi Dadri.
Details of the Incident
According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the accident took place around 5 am on Thursday. The family had arrived at the station to board a train for Jaipur. Madhubala was visiting her daughter along with her son, Basant, and another daughter, Babli. Mamta and her husband, Vinod, accompanied them to the station.
While crossing the tracks to purchase tickets, Vinod, Basant, and Babli moved ahead, while Mamta and Madhubala were behind them. At that moment, the Tanakpur Express arrived on the Delhi-Rewari track, causing the two women to stop midway. Simultaneously, the Bikaner Express approached on the Rewari-Delhi track and struck them before they could move out of the way. Madhubala fell onto the tracks, and Mamta was also hit while attempting to help her mother.
Response and Aftermath
GRP personnel arrived at the scene after receiving information about the accident. The bodies were later handed over to the family following an autopsy. The incident has left the family and local community in shock.
This unfortunate event highlights the dangers of crossing railway tracks at unauthorized points. Authorities urge the public to use designated foot overbridges or level crossings to avoid such tragedies.
