Tensions along the Israel–Lebanon border have escalated once again after Hezbollah fighters attempted to shoot down an Israeli fighter jet with a surface-to-air missile. The Israeli military confirmed that three Hezbollah operatives were killed in the incident, which occurred as they prepared to launch the missile at an Israeli Air Force aircraft.
Details of the Attack
In two separate incidents, operatives from the Iran-aligned Lebanese armed group also launched rockets and an explosive drone targeting Israeli troops operating south of the Forward Defense Line in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military intercepted several threats and responded with artillery fire.
Ceasefire Extension Announced
Amid the rising violence, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend an initial 10-day ceasefire by three weeks. The extension aims to de-escalate the situation and allow for further negotiations. However, the fresh attacks raise questions about the durability of the truce.
The region remains on high alert as both sides continue to exchange fire. Hezbollah, a key ally of Iran, has vowed to retaliate for the killing of its fighters. Meanwhile, Israel has warned of a strong response to any further aggression.
