India has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Mali that targeted multiple locations across the country. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement on Tuesday expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
MEA Statement on Mali Attacks
In an official press release, the MEA said, "India strongly condemns the terrorist attacks in Mali targeting multiple locations. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and express our solidarity with the Government and people of Mali in this difficult time. We also express our sincere condolences on the demise of General Sadio Camara, Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs of Mali, in the terror attack."
The statement further reiterated India's unwavering commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. "India reiterates its firm commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and supports efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region," the MEA added.
Coordinated Attacks Across Mali
Mali is currently grappling with its most significant coordinated militant assault in over a decade. Al-Qaida-linked groups and Tuareg separatists launched near-simultaneous strikes on key sites, including Bamako's airport, the Kati garrison town, and multiple cities in the north and centre of the country. A car bomb attack reportedly killed the Defence Minister, while insurgents claimed control of the strategic northern city of Kidal.
This assault marks a sharp deterioration in security conditions in Mali, despite Russian backing of the military government. Insurgents have intensified their operations, weakening state control across the country and posing a serious challenge to stability in the region.
India's Solidarity and Commitment
India's condemnation and expression of solidarity come at a critical time for Mali, as the nation faces heightened security threats. The MEA's statement underscores India's consistent stance against terrorism and its support for international efforts to restore peace and security in the Sahel region.
