India has firmly asserted its right to defend itself against cross-border terrorism backed by Pakistan, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Wednesday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India's stance during a press briefing, emphasizing that the nation will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security.
India's Right to Self-Defense
Responding to queries on recent developments, Jaiswal said, "India has every right to defend itself against Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism. We will not hesitate to take appropriate action to safeguard our national interests." He further highlighted that India remains committed to strengthening the global fight against terrorism in collaboration with like-minded nations.
Operation Sindoor and Counter-Terrorism Efforts
The statement comes amid ongoing operations, including Operation Sindoor, aimed at neutralizing terrorist threats emanating from across the border. Jaiswal noted that India's counter-terrorism strategy is comprehensive and includes diplomatic, economic, and military measures. "Our efforts are focused on dismantling the infrastructure of terrorism and ensuring that those responsible for heinous acts are brought to justice," he added.
International Cooperation
The MEA spokesperson underscored the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism. He called on the global community to take unified action against state-sponsored terrorism and to hold accountable those who provide safe havens to terrorist groups. India has consistently raised the issue of cross-border terrorism at various international forums, including the United Nations and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Background and Context
India has long accused Pakistan of supporting and harboring terrorist groups that carry out attacks on Indian soil. The recent escalation in rhetoric follows a series of incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) and in the Kashmir Valley. The MEA's statement reinforces India's position that it will not tolerate any form of terrorism and will respond decisively to any threats.
Randhir Jaiswal concluded by reiterating India's dedication to peace and stability in the region, but made it clear that the country's patience has limits. "India desires peace, but not at the cost of its security. We will continue to take all necessary steps to protect our citizens and our territorial integrity," he said.
