Gurbhej Singh, a 26-year-old Indian man, was fatally stabbed in west London early on June 10. Originally from Mehdipur village in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, he had moved to the United Kingdom in 2022 after his family spent nearly Rs 24 lakh to support his journey abroad.
Singh was a class XII pass-out when he relocated to the UK. His father, Mukhtiar Singh, is a farmer who owns around five acres of agricultural land in the district.
The incident occurred in Southall, west London, during the early hours of June 10. According to the Metropolitan Police, officers were called shortly after 12:40 am to reports of a stabbing on North Road near the junction with Dormers Wells Lane. Singh suffered a knife injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man, aged in his 30s, was also injured and later discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
Detectives have launched a murder investigation into Singh's death. Seven men were arrested on suspicion of murder, but six have since been released without further action. One suspect has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell said investigators believe Singh was assaulted outside a shop at the junction of North Road and Dormers Wells Lane at around 12:30 am. Police have appealed for witnesses, CCTV footage, and anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
The investigation remains ongoing.
