Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Saturday that it had arrested approximately 240 suspects during coordinated raids in the provinces of Kurdistan and Kermanshah. According to Iranian state media, the operation targeted alleged spy networks and what authorities described as 'counter-revolutionary groups.'
Details of the Operation
The IRGC reported that 155 individuals were detained in Kermanshah alone, while the remaining arrests were made in Kurdistan. In a separate operation, 11 suspects were taken into custody, and one member of a Kurdish armed group was killed. Officials also claimed that a large cache of weapons and ammunition was seized during the raids.
Alleged Links to Mossad
Iranian authorities further stated that four of those arrested are suspected of having connections to Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency. The crackdown comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with a US-brokered ceasefire in the region facing challenges.
The IRGC's swift action underscores Iran's determination to dismantle foreign spy networks operating within its borders. The operation is seen as a significant escalation in Iran's internal security measures, particularly in regions with Kurdish populations where separatist movements have been active.
