Israel Conducts Precision Strike on Alleged Iranian Regime Headquarters in Tehran
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has publicly released drone-view footage depicting what it describes as a precision military strike targeting a "headquarters of the Iranian terror regime" located in central Tehran. This operation is being characterized by Israeli military officials as the first attack of its kind "in the heart of Tehran" since the commencement of the large-scale military campaign known as Operation "Roaring Lion."
IDF Releases Aerial Footage of the Strike
In a post published on its official X account, the IDF shared aerial video footage showing a building situated within a dense urban area being struck by munitions. The footage captures the immediate aftermath, with a significant plume of smoke rising from the targeted site. The video was captioned by the IDF as showcasing the "dismantlement" of a regime headquarters and is framed as a component of a broader, ongoing campaign aimed at what Israel consistently refers to as core regime infrastructure.
"For the first time since the start of Operation ‘Roaring Lion,’ the IAF is striking targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in the heart of Tehran," the IDF stated in an official communication. The military further elaborated, "Over the past day, the IAF conducted large-scale strikes to establish aerial superiority and pave the path to Tehran."
Target Identification and Broader Operation Details
According to various media reports, the building visible in the released footage is associated with Iran’s state broadcaster, known as the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). However, the IDF’s official statements have deliberately refrained from explicitly naming IRIB. Instead, the military has repeatedly used broader terminology such as "regime infrastructure," "military command centres," and "regime targets" to describe the objectives.
The IDF has outlined that the initial phases of Operation Roaring Lion are concentrated on "establishing aerial superiority" over Iranian airspace and "paving the path to Tehran." In its operational updates, the military described a multi-stage campaign targeting a wide array of Iranian defense assets, including air-defense systems, missile launchers, and critical command infrastructure.
The scale of the operation is reported to be substantial. According to IDF accounts, approximately 200 Israeli Air Force fighter jets participated in what is being called the largest flyover in IAF history. These aircraft dropped "hundreds of munitions" on around 500 designated objectives. These targets reportedly included air-defense systems, missile arrays, sites linked to the regime, and military command centres spread across western and central regions of Iran.
Coordinated US-Israel Military Campaign
This strike is not an isolated event but forms an integral part of a broader, coordinated military campaign involving both the United States and Israel. Israel refers to its component as Operation "Roaring Lion," while the US Department of Defense has designated its parallel effort as "Operation Epic Fury."
On Saturday, Israeli and US forces launched synchronized strikes across multiple Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah. This represents a significant escalation in military actions against Iran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in his first public remarks following the initiation of the strikes, stated that the dual objectives of Roaring Lion and Epic Fury are to remove threats emanating from Tehran and to "empower the Iranian people against the regime." This framing casts the military campaign in both security and political terms, suggesting a strategic aim beyond immediate tactical targets.
On the American side, President Donald Trump characterized the US role as involving "major combat operations" against Iran. He described it as "a massive and ongoing operation" intended to eliminate what he termed "imminent threats from the Iranian regime." President Trump explicitly linked this military action to longstanding US concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear and missile development programs, as well as its support for various proxy groups across the Middle East region.
