Jharkhand to Face Extreme Heat, Thunderstorms for Next 4-5 Days

Ranchi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extreme discomfort across various parts of Jharkhand for the next four to five days, particularly during the first half of the day, as temperatures are expected to rise significantly. However, many areas may experience relatively cooler evenings due to the possibility of lightning, thunderstorms, and gusty winds at isolated locations across the state.

Regional Weather Variations

According to Abhishek Anand, scientist and deputy director of the Ranchi Met office, weather conditions will vary by region. People in almost all districts of the eastern part of the state, mostly bordering West Bengal—including Sahibganj, Pakur, Dumka, Jamtara, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Seraikela-Kharsawan, and East Singhbhum—will face extreme discomfort due to high humidity, Anand stated.

In contrast, districts in the northwestern part of the state, such as Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, and Latehar, may experience near-heatwave conditions with soaring temperatures and dry weather, devoid of humidity, the Met official added.

Advisory for Residents

“In both conditions, people need to take proper care of themselves,” Anand said, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated.

Warnings Issued

The Met office has issued warnings from Wednesday through the beginning of next week for lightning, thunderstorms, and gusty winds at isolated places, which are likely to bring down temperatures in different areas after 4 pm. For Wednesday, an orange warning has been issued for thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph at isolated places over northeastern and adjoining central parts of the state, including Bokaro and Dhanbad. A yellow warning for thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph is likely at isolated places over the central and southern parts of the state. Similar warnings have been issued for the rest of the week.

Night Temperature Drop

With thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and light rainfall at isolated places across the state, including Ranchi, night temperatures are expected to dip, Anand explained.

Recent Weather Data

During the past 24 hours until Tuesday morning, the state received light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms at isolated places.
