Kyiv came under drone attack on Tuesday following the expiration of a three-day truce with Russia, Ukrainian authorities reported.
Drone Attack on Kyiv
The head of the capital's military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, posted on Telegram: "Enemy UAVs are currently over Kyiv. Please stay safe until the alert is cleared." This alert siren was the first confirmed in the capital since Friday, before the ceasefire came into force.
Kyiv's regional military administration advised residents to remain in shelters and indicated that air defenses could be operational in the area.
Background of the Truce
The three-day truce was announced on Friday by US President Donald Trump, just hours before Russia's World War II victory celebrations. Trump expressed hope that the ceasefire would mark "the beginning of the end" of the conflict. The truce was set to be in place from May 9 to 11.
During the ceasefire period, both countries traded accusations of attacks on civilians that violated the agreement. The expiration of the truce has now led to renewed hostilities, with drones targeting the Ukrainian capital.
