Midland Texas Shooting: 11 Victims, Shooter Dead

At least a dozen individuals were shot in Midland, Texas, on Friday morning, triggering a standoff that lasted several hours. The circumstances leading to the mass shooting remain unclear. The shooter has been confirmed dead, according to Mayor Lori Blong.

Victims and Response

“We do have 11 known victims at this time. There’s at least one victim that is dead on the scene,” Mayor Blong stated on Friday. “The active shooter situation has ended, and the shooter is confirmed deceased.”

Officers responded to reports of gunfire from a building in the 4600 block of West Wall Street, as detailed by Police Chief Greg Snow in a statement. “Efforts to bring the standoff with the shooter to a safe resolution are ongoing,” Snow had said earlier that morning.

Witness Accounts

Brenda Bowen, manager of All American Collision, reported seeing “a man (randomly) shooting at cars driving by.” Her establishment went into lockdown as the standoff unfolded.

Witnesses told CNN that a SWAT vehicle broke through a fence, and officers entered an abandoned building where the suspect was believed to be hiding. Andrea Mendias, at the nearby Loop 250 Collision Center, observed about 20 SWAT officers running inside.

After a sheriff’s deputy reviewed video footage from the shop, authorities informed Mendias that the suspect was likely in the adjacent building and “may be tied to a random shooting from the night before.”

Location

Midland is situated in West Texas, roughly halfway between Fort Worth and El Paso.
