A tense situation unfolded in Kanpur Dehat on Wednesday after a mortar shell was discovered in a pond, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. The incident occurred in Jaswapur village under the Gajner police station limits, where residents noticed the suspicious object and alerted the police.
Security Measures Implemented
Upon receiving the information, police and district administration officials swiftly arrived at the location. As a precautionary measure, the entire area was cordoned off to ensure public safety. The bomb squad and a Forensic Science Lab (FSL) team were summoned to examine the object. The discovery caused a stir, drawing many villagers to the site out of curiosity.
Expert Investigation Underway
Deputy SP Sanjay Singh, who reached the spot, stated that the recovered item appears to be a mortar, a type of explosive military device. He emphasized that expert opinions are being sought to confirm the object's exact identity and condition. The FSL team is conducting a detailed investigation, and a bomb squad team has been called in from Jhansi to assist. Only after the experts complete their assessment will it be determined whether the mortar is active or inactive and how it ended up in the pond.
Police have urged villagers to avoid approaching the suspicious item until the inquiry is concluded and to follow all safety directions. The administration has stepped up monitoring in nearby areas to prevent any untoward incident.
