Over 2,400 Indian Nationals Evacuated from Iran: MEA

In a significant development, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that over 2,400 Indian nationals have been safely evacuated from Iran. Aseem R Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf) at MEA, provided these details during a press briefing on April 24, 2026.

Evacuation Details

The evacuation operation was launched in response to the escalating situation in Iran. Indian nationals were brought back via special flights coordinated by the Indian embassy in Tehran and the consulate in Bandar Abbas. The MEA official stated that all evacuees have been safely returned to India.

Return of Indians from Gulf Region

Mahajan further highlighted that over 12 lakh people have returned to India from the Gulf region in recent months. This includes both those evacuated due to emergencies and those returning voluntarily. Regular flights continue to operate from several countries in the Gulf to various destinations in India, ensuring smooth travel for Indian citizens.
