Amritsar: Security forces in Punjab have been placed on high alert after bomb threats were sent via email to five temples on Thursday. The targeted temples include the Durgiana Temple in Amritsar, Mukteshwar Dham in Pathankot, Devi Talab Mandir in Jalandhar, Maiserkhana Temple in Bathinda, and Kali Mata Mandir in Patiala.
Threat Email Received at Punjab Secretariat
The threatening email was received by the control room of the Punjab Secretariat in Chandigarh, prompting immediate security measures across the state. Authorities are investigating the origin of the email and have urged the public to remain vigilant.
Response from Temple Authorities
Arun Khanna, general secretary of the Sri Durgiana Committee, stated that the temple management had not directly received any email. He noted that thousands of devotees visit the temple daily, which is believed to have been originally built in the 16th century and rebuilt in 1921, closely resembling the Golden Temple. Khanna emphasized that while police have established checkpoints, or nakas, around the temple premises and intensified frisking and search operations, a more comprehensive security plan is needed to address potential threats effectively.
Security Measures in Pathankot
In Pathankot, SP (Investigation) Manoj Kumar confirmed that adequate forces have been deployed at Mukteshwar Temple. Search operations and security checks are being carried out in and around the temple premises as a precautionary measure. The cave temple is one of the most significant shrines in Punjab, attracting a large number of pilgrims.

Punjab Police are conducting thorough investigations to trace the source of the threat email. Security has been tightened at all religious sites across the state, with increased patrols and surveillance.
