Gurdaspur Terror Plot Foiled by Punjab Police

Three arrests and the seizure of two hand grenades have thwarted a foreign-directed terror plot in Punjab, resolving a public security scare that began last month with a failed bombing. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aditya announced on Sunday that the arrested individuals have been identified as Amarjit Singh ‘Billa', Karanjit Singh ‘Karan', and Satnam Singh.

The joint investigation by Punjab Police and counter-intelligence officers commenced on April 27 after a grenade was discovered near a shop on Gurdaspur's Geeta Bhawan Road. The device was safely defused by bomb disposal experts. SSP Aditya stated, "We used CCTV footage, human intelligence, and technical analysis to identify two suspects on a motorcycle who had thrown the grenade."

Following the initial arrests, police recovered a second hand grenade hidden at Amarjit Singh's residence. Investigations revealed that their overseas handler had supplied both explosive devices. Initially, the trio was charged under sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act at the Gurdaspur City police station.

Investigators have since added charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), India's primary counter-terrorism law. SSP Aditya explained, "We will now map the network's local support structures and foreign contacts." Police anticipate further arrests and asset seizures as the probe deepens.
