Hisar: A head-on collision between a car and a dumper truck killed seven members of a family from Haryana’s Fatehabad on a national highway near Hemasar village in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district on Monday. The family was returning home from a pilgrimage to Mukam Dham, a temple of the Bishnoi community, when the accident occurred. The impact mangled the Swift Dzire. Rescuers and police personnel used cutters to dismantle parts of the wrecked vehicle to retrieve the victims trapped inside.
The crash wiped out three generations of the family, including Matna village resident Om Prakash (58), a senior accountant who had retired from the district development and panchayat office just 15 days before. The other victims included his wife Sorma Devi (55), daughter Pramila (30), grandson Ronit (4), and granddaughters Yashasvi (10) and Khushi (8). Another granddaughter, Tanvi (3) later succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Om Prakash regularly visited Mukam Dham every new moon and had organised this trip to celebrate his recent retirement, said neighbours.
The tragedy leaves behind only Om Prakash’s other daughter, who skipped the pilgrimage because of her pregnancy, son Surender, his wife and their daughter. The final rites took place on Tuesday.
