The Amritsar police have arrested two associates of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and seized two hand grenades from their possession. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh, both residents of Amritsar. The arrests were made during a routine check at a checkpoint near the Golden Temple. The police recovered the hand grenades from a bag they were carrying. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were planning a major attack in the city. The police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and are interrogating the accused to ascertain their links with other BKI operatives. The police have also launched a search for other suspects involved in the conspiracy. The Amritsar police commissioner lauded the efforts of the team and said that such operations will continue to maintain peace in the region. The arrest is seen as a major success in the fight against terrorism in Punjab.
