Two dead as wrong-side DCM truck hits car on highway

Kanpur: Two men died and one was injured after a DCM truck coming from the wrong side collided with a car on the Kanpur-Aligarh National Highway in Kannauj in the early hours of Monday. The injured was admitted to the district hospital.

Accident Details

SP, Kannauj, Vinod Kumar Singh said, “The incident occurred near Manimau town in the Sadar Kotwali area at around 4 am. A car heading towards Kanpur collided with a DCM coming from the opposite direction. In the accident, Vishal (33), a resident of Puradev village under Shivli police station area of Kanpur Nagar district, Amber Katiyar (35) of Pihani and Raunak (32) were injured.” He said Manimau Chowki police reached the spot and sent the three injured persons to the district hospital where doctors declared Vishal and Amber dead, while Raunak was referred to Kanpur.

Police Response

The police contacted the families of the deceased and the injured by calling numbers saved in the mobile phone found in the car. The bodies were sent for the post-mortem examination. The vehicles were removed from the highway.

Family Allegations

The families of the deceased stated that there is a cut on the national highway before Manimau town, from where vehicles frequently come onto the wrong side. A DCM suddenly came to the other side from this cut, causing the accident and claiming the lives of two young men.
