Two people were killed in separate explosions near mosques in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, according to local reports. The blasts occurred near places of worship, raising concerns about security in the region.
A local man reportedly stopped a motorcycle-borne attacker on the route leading to one of the mosques and attempted to verify his identity. The attacker then detonated his explosive device, causing casualties.
Details of the Incidents
The first explosion took place near a mosque in the city of Bannu, while the second occurred close to a mosque in the town of Lakki Marwat. Both areas are in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province that has seen a rise in militant activity in recent months.
Emergency services rushed to the scenes and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Security forces have cordoned off the areas and launched investigations into the attacks.
Security Concerns
The blasts come amid a surge in violence in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Authorities have heightened security measures in the province, especially around places of worship and public gatherings.
No group has claimed responsibility for the explosions yet. However, militant groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have previously targeted mosques and religious sites in the region.
Reactions from Officials
Local officials condemned the attacks and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. They assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. The provincial government has called for an immediate report on the incidents.
Residents in the affected areas have expressed fear and urged the government to improve security. Many have called for stricter measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
