Two Sisters Die After Eating Mangoes in Hyderabad

Bidar: Two sisters from Bidar district have died under suspicious circumstances in Hyderabad after falling ill with vomiting and diarrhoea following a meal and consumption of mangoes brought home by their relatives. Police said the exact cause of death will be known only after the investigation.

Victims Identified

The deceased are Bhavani Vaijinath Metre, 17, and Sandhyarani Metre, 14, natives of Shembelli village in Aurad taluk. Bhavani died on June 8, and Sandhyarani on June 9. Their last rites were held at their hometown.

Sequence of Events

According to their relatives, the family consumed mangoes brought by visiting relatives after lunch on June 8. Soon after, several members developed vomiting and diarrhoea, and were subsequently hospitalised.

Another sister, Vijayashree, 19, remains in critical condition. She is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kachiguda, Hyderabad. Their mother, Indumati Metre, and another sister, Amulya, 16, have recovered, police said.

Family Background

Vaijinath and Indumati Metre have five daughters. Indumati shifted to Hyderabad with her children three to four years ago and has been working as a daily wage labourer.

A case has been registered at Narayanaguda police station, and an investigation is under way.
