15 Indian Tourists Killed in Vietnam Boat Capsize
A tourist speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam on Saturday, resulting in 15 deaths and 21 rescues. Among the deceased, two were from Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and three others from the state were hospitalised, according to Andhra Pradesh Government sources.
Victims from Andhra Pradesh Identified
The two deceased from Andhra Pradesh have been identified as Jalalakshmi and Jayashree, both from Machilipatnam. Three other individuals from the state were hospitalised following the capsize. "Preliminary information indicates that two persons from Machilipatnam are among the deceased. We are coordinating with the Indian Embassy and the Vietnamese authorities, and further details will be shared after official confirmation," Andhra Pradesh sources said.
Boat Capsize Details and Rescue Operation
The tourist speedboat was returning to An Thoi Port when it capsized near Phu Quoc Island. Of the 36 people on board, 17 passengers and four crew members were rescued, while two survivors remained in critical condition. The An Thoi Border Guard Station, the Navy, Coast Guard Region 4, and local boats launched a large-scale rescue operation, deploying life rafts and jet skis. All 36 individuals have been accounted for.
Tour Organisers and Investigation
The tour was organised by Vietnam-based Threeland Travel through local coordinating vendor Sai Vietnam, and the Indian tourist group was reportedly associated with Lava Mobile. The cause of the accident is under investigation, with rough sea conditions and possible mechanical failure suspected. Verification of the identities of other affected Indian nationals is underway.
