Vietnam Embassy Expresses Condolences Over Phu Quoc Boat Tragedy
The Embassy of Vietnam in India has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic boat accident off the coast of Phu Quoc island that claimed the lives of 15 Indian nationals. In a statement on Sunday, Charge d'Affaires Tran Thanh Tung confirmed that Vietnamese authorities are closely coordinating with Indian counterparts to assist affected families, facilitate the early repatriation of the deceased, and ensure treatment for the injured.
Speaking to ANI, Tung stated, "The Embassy of Vietnam in India is deeply saddened by the tragic boat accident off the coast of Phu Quoc that claimed the lives of 15 Indian nationals." He added that Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung immediately directed all relevant authorities to undertake rescue operations, provide the best possible medical care to those injured, and extend support to the victims and their families.
Coordination with Indian Authorities for Repatriation and Investigation
Tung said Vietnamese authorities have been coordinating closely with the Embassy of India in Hanoi and other Indian authorities to assist affected families, facilitate early repatriation of those who lost their lives, and ensure the injured receive necessary care. He also noted that a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the Indian nationals have reached Ho Chi Minh City, according to the Embassy of India in Vietnam. In a post on X, the embassy stated that the remains will be transported to India after completion of necessary formalities, and that embassy and consulate teams, along with Vietnamese authorities, remain committed to facilitating the earliest repatriation.
Condolences from Vietnam's Top Leadership
Tung further conveyed that Vietnam's top leadership has sent condolences to Indian leaders. "Vietnam General Secretary and President To Lam, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung conveyed their deepest condolences to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and to the people of India, particularly the bereaved families, over this tragic loss," he said.
"We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult time and remain committed to providing all possible support and assistance," Tung added. The incident involved a tourist speedboat capsizing off Phu Quoc island, resulting in the deaths of 15 Indian nationals.
