A 55-year-old woman lost her life in a suspected tiger attack within the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve located in Madhya Pradesh's Umaria district. The deceased, identified as Phool Bai, a resident of Jhalwar village, had ventured into the Panpatha core zone of the forest on Thursday morning to collect mahua fruit. When she failed to return home by afternoon, her family initiated a search. Her body was later discovered in the forest. Preliminary investigations suggest that she was attacked and killed by a tiger while gathering mahua.
Compensation for the Victim's Family
Forest officials have stated that the victim's family will be eligible for compensation under the provisions for human-wildlife conflict. This incident marks the fifth tiger-related human death in the region over the past two months.
Enhanced Surveillance and Safety Measures
In response to the rising number of incidents, officials have intensified surveillance and deployed monitoring teams to prevent further human-wildlife conflicts. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted to discourage unnecessary entry into tiger habitats. Reserve authorities have reported that trap cameras have been installed, and tracking operations using elephants are underway to monitor tiger movement and ensure the safety of villagers.
