A young married woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Phase III of Madanpur Khadar, under the Sarita Vihar police station limits in south-east Delhi, officials said on Friday.

Incident Details

According to the police, a PCR call reported the suspected hanging death of the woman, wife of Ankit, at the house in the locality. Investigators said the woman had been married for about a year and was living with her husband, Ankit, at the same residence where the incident took place.

Sources said investigators are not ruling out any angle, including homicide, and are awaiting forensic reports and the post-mortem examination before reaching any conclusion. The couple, according to police sources, belonged to different religions and had a love marriage. Investigators are also probing reports of frequent disputes between them.

Husband Questioned

“There were regular arguments between the husband and wife. We are questioning the husband and trying to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the woman’s death,” a police officer said.

Legal inquest proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of an Executive Magistrate, as required in cases involving the death of a woman within a few years of marriage.

The exact cause and manner of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination, police said, adding that further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
