Woman Rescued from Chemically Polluted Thenpennai River

Krishnagiri: In a daring rescue operation near Bagalur in Hosur, fire and rescue personnel saved a 60-year-old woman who had fallen into the Thenpennai River on Sunday. The river has been experiencing heavy inflow from Karnataka in recent days, accompanied by foul-smelling chemical froth.

Rescue Details

The woman, identified as Pappamma from Gangapuram, was swept away by the current after falling into the river. A firefighter explained, "She managed to hold onto a rock about half a kilometer downstream from the Bagalur bridge until we rescued her."

Local residents who spotted her alerted the Bagalur police and Hosur fire and rescue services. A firefighter swam through the fast-moving water, secured ropes around the woman, and carried her on his back to safety, with colleagues on the bank pulling them both ashore.
