Ghalibaf declares end of one-sided deal with US
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued a stern warning to the United States on Sunday, stating that the era of one-sided agreements is over. His remarks came after a series of US strikes in the Strait of Hormuz, which targeted Iranian military assets. In a post on X, Ghalibaf highlighted the fifth point of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which stipulated that Iran would ensure safe passage for commercial vessels for 60 days without charge. He accused the US of backing out of the deal and affirmed, "The era of one-sided deals is OVER. We told you: keep your word or pay the price. Reality is knocking."
US strikes hit over 300 Iranian targets
US Central Command (CENTCOM) completed a third round of strikes against Iran on Saturday, targeting approximately 140 Iranian military sites with precision munitions launched from land- and sea-based fighter aircraft, drones, and naval vessels. According to a CENTCOM statement, the strikes hit missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks, and coastal surveillance locations. Over three nights, more than 300 targets were struck to degrade Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM confirmed that commercial vessel transits continue through the vital maritime corridor.
Iran retaliates, Gulf states condemn attacks
In retaliation, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have destroyed a military command-and-control center and drone hangars in Jordan, as reported by Al Jazeera. The IRGC had earlier announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until further notice, demanding an end to US interference in West Asia. Several Gulf states condemned the Iranian attacks. Qatar issued a strong condemnation, calling for an immediate cessation of Iranian military actions and reserving its right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Jordan also condemned the attacks as a blatant violation of sovereignty and a dangerous escalation. The strikes and counterstrikes mark a significant escalation in tensions between Iran and the US, with regional repercussions.
