Hyderabad Tourists Stranded in Middle East Amid Regional Tensions and Flight Cancellations

Several tourists and visitors from Hyderabad are currently stranded in various parts of the Middle East following a significant escalation of tensions in the region. This situation has led to widespread flight cancellations and temporary shutdowns of key services, leaving many travelers anxious and confused about their return plans.

Dramatic Shutdown in Bahrain Leaves Travelers in Panic

When TOI contacted a group of seven tourists stranded in Bahrain, they described a sudden and dramatic change in circumstances just hours before their scheduled return flight to Hyderabad. "It was a complete shutdown," said G Soloman Raj, one of the stranded passengers. "We were supposed to leave, but everything came to a halt as we were about to collect our boarding passes."

He recounted a frightening experience at the airport: "While we were waiting in the queue, a siren suddenly went off. All passengers, including children and women, had to run out of the airport in panic." The group, originally on a one-week trip, is now stranded and has rented an apartment temporarily. However, they are unable to step outside due to police restrictions on movement across the city.

Uncertainty and Safety Advisories Add to Anxiety

The uncertainty over flight operations and ongoing safety advisories has left the stranded tourists feeling anxious and confused, with little clarity on when normal services might resume. "We were advised to stay indoors and avoid stepping out," one of the travelers in Bahrain mentioned during a phone conversation. This lack of information has compounded their distress, as they grapple with extended stays in unfamiliar surroundings.

Panic and Disruption Reported in Dubai

Similarly, some residents and visitors in Dubai have reported a sense of panic following the disruption of air services and heightened security measures. N Karthik, a resident in Dubai, noted that while daily life has not come to a complete standstill, there is growing concern about further escalation. "We were asked to work from home, and schools were closed," he said, highlighting the broader impact on the local population.

Key Points from the Regional Escalation

  • Israel has reportedly attacked targets in Iran and bombed Hezbollah targets in Beirut.
  • Iranian state media claims a US fighter jet was downed in Kuwait, sharing a video showing a fighter jet engulfed in flames with pilots ejecting.
  • Explosions have been reported in Bahrain, Dubai, and Doha.
  • Gulf nations have vowed to defend themselves amid the rising tensions.

The combination of these events has created a volatile environment, directly affecting travel and safety for tourists from Hyderabad and other regions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, but for now, the stranded individuals remain in a state of limbo, hoping for a swift resolution to the crisis.
