Delicate backchannel peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran are hanging by a thread following an ultimatum issued by the Iranian Parliament's National Security Commission. Tehran has explicitly conditioned the survival of the Pakistan-mediated diplomatic track on the United States' ability to restrain its regional partner, Israel.
Iran's Ultimatum After Beirut Airstrike
Following an unprovoked Israel Defense Forces airstrike on a residential neighborhood in southern Beirut, Iranian official Ebrahim Rezaei warned that any broader regional security understanding is "mathematically impossible" while Tel Aviv violates the active, US-managed ceasefire framework. Shifting the strategic burden entirely onto Washington, Tehran declared that if President Trump expects an implementable accord, he must discipline his ally.
IRGC on High Alert
Iran warned that its missile divisions are fully mobilized and postured to deliver a painful defensive response should these unilateral incursions continue. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been ordered to prepare for potential retaliation.
This development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Iran seeking to leverage its military capabilities to pressure the US into reining in Israeli operations. The Pakistan-mediated talks, which had shown promise, now face an uncertain future as Tehran demands concrete actions from Washington.
