UAE Implements Full Airspace Closure Following Iranian Missile and Drone Assaults
The United Arab Emirates has enacted a comprehensive and temporary shutdown of its national airspace in response to a series of missile and drone attacks launched by Iran. This decisive action, announced by the General Civil Aviation Authority, is characterized as an exceptional precautionary measure designed to ensure the utmost safety for all flights, air crews, and the sovereign territory of the UAE.
Air Defence Systems Actively Engage Incoming Threats
According to reports from Al Jazeera, the UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed it is actively countering a new wave of aerial assaults originating from Iran. In a related development, authorities in Dubai clarified that loud sounds heard across various parts of the city were the result of successful interception operations conducted by the nation's air defence systems, as stated in an official post from the Dubai Media Office on social media platform X.
Shah Gas Field Operations Suspended After Drone Attack Ignites Fire
Simultaneously, operations at the massive Shah gas field, located approximately 180 kilometres southwest of Abu Dhabi city, have been suspended. This action follows a drone attack that ignited a fire at the facility. The Abu Dhabi media office reported that the fire has since been contained, with no injuries reported. The Shah gas field, operated by the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), is one of the largest globally, with a production capacity of 1.28 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.
This incident is part of a broader pattern, as CNN reports that the UAE's critical energy and transport infrastructure has been repeatedly targeted by Iran throughout the ongoing regional conflict. In a separate event on Monday, an advanced fire broke out at the Fujairah petroleum industrial zone after it was struck by a drone attack, according to the Fujairah Media Office.
The closure of UAE airspace and the defensive measures underscore the heightened tensions and immediate security challenges facing the nation in the wake of these coordinated Iranian strikes.
