The incident occurred approximately 21 nautical miles northeast of Sohar, according to the UKMTO advisory. Local authorities are investigating, and no environmental impact has been reported. The UKMTO advised vessels to transit with caution in the area.

In a separate development, the Indian Embassy in Oman stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities after an incident involving a vessel off the port of Shinas. The embassy posted on X, formerly Twitter, that it had learned of the incident and was working with Omani officials for further details. The embassy's statement underscores India's concern for the safety of its nationals, as many Indian crew members are employed in the global maritime workforce.
Recent Attacks in the Region
The fresh reports of attacks in Omani waters follow the recent assault on the Palau-flagged vessel MT Settebello near the Strait of Hormuz. That attack resulted in the deaths of three Indian crew members among the 24 Indians on board. UN Calls for Ceasefire
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire and the restoration of navigational rights in and around the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that restrictions on navigational rights are causing hardship and instability worldwide. Guterres warned that even in the best-case scenario, the shocks from these disruptions will be felt for many months, with developing countries bearing the heaviest impacts. He urged all parties to adhere to international law and work towards a complete ceasefire.

India has voiced deep concern over the attacks on merchant shipping vessels in the Gulf region. New Delhi, as a proximate neighbor with critical stakes in the security and stability of the area, condemned the attacks firmly. An Indian official stated that many Indian nationals have lost their lives or are missing as a result of attacks against countries of the region and against merchant vessels and sea lanes of communication.
